Form I-90, Replace Green Card

Form I-90 renews or replaces a ten-year green card that is expired, expiring, lost, stolen, or wrong. The receipt notice serves as proof of status while the new card is made. One thing it does not do: remove conditions from a two-year card — that is Form I-751.

Part by part

What the form asks

  1. Why you are filing

Expiring, lost, stolen, damaged, a name change, or an error on the card — each reason has its own checkbox and evidence.

  2. Who you are

Your card details and identity, matching USCIS records.

  3. The proof that bridges

The receipt notice extends your card as proof of status — keep it with the old card for work and travel.

Watch for

Where cases go wrong

Filing I-90 for a two-year conditional card — conditions are removed with Form I-751

Not carrying the receipt notice with the expired card as proof

Wrong reason checkbox, which changes the evidence and sometimes the fee

A name change with no legal document behind it

Every one of these is a completeness problem — the kind the software checks for before your packet is marked ready.
